conformation @ Youngstown All Breed Training Club

Conformation is more than a beauty contest for dogs! It is the measure of a dog’s conformance to its breed standard, as close as can be practicable. Originally developed by dog men throughout the 19th century to evaluate breeding stock, conformation competition today, continues to promote the “best of the best” amongst the numerous dog breeds and their groups: Sporting, Non-Sporting, Working, Hound, Terrier, Toy and Herding. 

Conformation at Youngstown All Breed consists of a yearly class taught in January & February by Susan Fithian (see below). This six-week class culminates with the Annual Puppy Match held the last weekend of February. 

Conformation Run-Thru’s are held every Tuesday night at 7 pm, by club members who are experienced show dog handlers, all having put championships and grand championships on various breeds, some with multiple breed championships. These Run-Thru “Judges” conduct their rings just like real AKC judges, and most will offer suggestions for better handling, during the ring time.

YABTC Beginner’s Class is a 6-week course with your dog on Sundays in January & February from 1:00pm - 2:30pm weekly. Cost is $120.00 per person and this includes your one entry to the Annual Puppy Match held the last weekend of February. (Discount offered for YABTC members). 

This class will go through everything from the basics, such as grooming tips/filling out entry forms etc., to actual ring time working on moving and stacking.

As the situation is continually being monitored for safe classes / certain protocols may be required. Please check back as future classes will be announced.
