About Youngstown All Breed Training Club
The Past
In the summer of 1954, an obedience training club was formed and the individuals met at our local park, Mill Creek. In the fall of 1954, the group became an AKC licensed obedience club, known as the “Youngstown All Breed Training Club”. In early 1955, the Club became incorporated under this same name. In the early 1990’s, the Club applied for and was granted 501c3 status. The Club has been located in many places since their start in a park. They were in the GF building in Liberty, the Amory in Austintown, and at a small manufacturing plant in North Jackson.
In 1995, a building built specifically for the Club to lease, just west of North Jackson.
The present
The Club had grown from a small group of individuals to a much larger one, with nearly 200 members. Classes are available from puppy socialization, up to advanced training for agility, conformation, rally, and obedience competition. In obedience alone, the Club instructs over 1,000 students per year, all taught by our volunteer club members.
The 1995 building was just shy of 10,000 square feet and had become too small to accommodate the volume of students, agility classes and trials, and the new larger ring sizes for trials required by the AKC. Knowing a new, larger, facility was needed, the club acquired 10 acres of land in 2005. In 2013, Mike Coates Construction built a new 19,000 square foot building, with outdoor training areas, and more parking for classes and various events. Indoors, there was room for five training rings for obedience classes, or 100-foot square feet of floor area for agility training and trials.
the future
Recent activities have increased the Club’s uses, including AKC Fetch Trials, Scent Work classes and trials, and in 2026, a year’s worth of work was completed for our 500’ long fenced FastCAT run. After four years holding FastCAT trials at a facility in Windham, the Club will hold FastCAT events on-site, adjacent to the main building.
